Distinguished Spanish Wines since 1840
Marqués de Vargas is a family adventure headed by Pelayo de la Mata, 9th Marquess of Vargas and 9th Earl of San Cristóbal, with the aim of producing wines of outstanding quality. The Marqués de Vargas winery stands at the heart of the vineyards themselves, true to the château concept. The vines are tended to by artisans and harvested by hand, while the cuverie allows individual wines to be made from each of the 32 plots planted with the characteristic red wine varieties of the D.O.C. Rioja designation. Marqués de Vargas uses its harvest to produce aged, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines, naturally decanted without filtration, and aged for years in the bottle before they are released.
The Bodegas y Viñedos del Marqués de Vargas Group also produces other distinguished wines in leading winemaking regions. Conde de San Cristóbal, in Ribera del Duero, and Pazo de San Mauro, in Rías Baixas; unique settings where limited edition estate wines are made, drawn only from the winery’s own vineyards.
Balboa has since 2019 performed communication work for the three brands with the aim of underpinning the perception of excellence and achieving greater reach in all three cases. To do so we opted for a strategy including presentations, co-branding initiatives and carefully crafted mailings sent to opinion formers and key figures in the world of wine.
